A train derailed in Chicago on Monday evening, leading to the evacuation of several passengers, officials confirmed.
According to the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), the incident occurred when a Yellow Line train derailed at Howard station in Rogers Park. Passengers from the affected train, along with those on another nearby train, were safely escorted to a nearby station with the assistance of the CTA and the Chicago Fire Department.
Authorities stated that “no injuries were reported.” The CTA described the derailment as a minor incident, though the exact cause has not yet been disclosed and is currently under investigation, according to local media.
Following the derailment, Red, Yellow, and Purple lines were temporarily shut down. Shuttle buses were deployed to accommodate commuters while train services were suspended.
Newsweek reported that they contacted the CTA for an official statement via email outside of working hours.
This derailment caused temporary disruptions in the area but, fortunately, did not result in any injuries.
