Amazon Appstore to Shut Down on Android Devices from August 20, 2025

Amazon Launches AI Agent to Support Marketplace Sellers
Amazon has confirmed that it will close its Amazon Appstore on Android devices from August 20, 2025. The move marks a big change in Amazon’s mobile strategy as the company shifts focus towards its own hardware and services instead of competing with Google Play Store.
According to Amazon’s official notice, apps downloaded through the Amazon Appstore may stop working properly once the shutdown begins. Users are also warned about possible security risks since these apps will no longer get updates or safety patches. To avoid problems, Amazon has advised customers to uninstall these apps and reinstall them from the Google Play Store wherever available.
Amazon Coins Program Ending
Alongside the Appstore closure, Amazon will also end its Amazon Coins program on the same date. Customers who still hold unused Coins will be eligible for refunds. However, Amazon has not yet explained how the refund process will work.
Why This Matters
The Google Play Store will remain the main and most secure source for Android apps. It comes with Google Play Protect, which scans apps for harmful activity and provides regular protection.
Experts believe Amazon’s decision follows Google’s stricter policies on third-party app stores under its new Advanced Protection Mode. While Amazon was once considered a strong alternative, this step shows how Google Play continues to dominate the Android app market.
