E-Taxi Service in Punjab: Cost Plan Approved by Government

20 August, 2025 13:30

Punjab has officially finalized the financing scheme for its much-anticipated e-taxi service, with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approving the plan to make electric vehicles more affordable for drivers.

In the first phase, around 1,100 Chinese-manufactured e-vehicles will be introduced in Lahore. Under the financing model, banks will provide loans of up to Rs6.5 million, while the Punjab government will cover the interest costs. Buyers will pay a subsidized down payment, with the government contributing Rs585,000 for vehicles priced between Rs4 million and Rs10 million.

To support the rollout, officials confirmed that Rs2 billion has been allocated to the project. Additionally, 18 charging stations have already been installed across Lahore, with further expansion planned to meet growing demand.

Authorities highlighted that the e-taxi service aims to cut transportation costs, reduce environmental pollution, and promote modern urban mobility. With financing details finalized, the project is expected to provide both economic and environmental benefits for Punjab’s commuters.
