PTI Founder’s Nephew Shershah Given 5-Day Remand

Shershah, the nephew of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and son of Aleema Khan, was arrested on Friday in connection with the May 9 Jinnah House attack. His arrest came just one day after his brother, Shahrez, was also taken into custody in the same case.

On Saturday, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore granted a five-day physical remand of Shershah to the police. He was presented in court under strict security.

According to the police, video evidence shows that Shershah was present during the attack and was allegedly seen inciting people to commit arson and vandalism. The prosecution played the video footage in court and requested a 30-day remand for further investigation, including photogrammetric and polygraph tests.

Shershah’s lawyer, Salman Akram Raja, opposed the request, arguing that similar suspects had already been discharged after delays of over two years. He asked the court to reject the remand and release Shershah.

After hearing both sides, the court approved a five-day remand.

Outside the court, Aleema Khan, mother of the two accused and sister of Imran Khan, spoke to the media. She said both her sons are in custody only because of their family ties to the PTI founder.

“I have been told that I may be arrested next,” she said. “We are ready to face any punishment. But yes, if someone has set a building on fire, they should be punished.”

The May 9 violence began after Imran Khan’s arrest in a corruption case in 2023. Several PTI supporters were involved in attacks on military and government buildings, including the Jinnah House incident, which remains one of the most serious cases.
