Flood Warnings Issued Across Pakistan Amid Heavy Rainfall Forecast Until August 27
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued flood warnings across Pakistan following recent rainfall in various regions.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the Chenab River may experience moderate to high-level flooding in the next 48 hours. The Sutlej River at Gandas Singh Wala is experiencing high-level flooding, with a water flow of 126,000 cusecs
Punjab is facing heavy rainfall until August 27, raising the risk of moderate to high-level floods in the province’s rivers. The northern and north-eastern districts of Punjab have been placed on flash flooding alert, while the Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers and their associated streams and canals are also showing signs of flooding.
At Head Suleimanki, moderate-level flooding has been reported. The water inflow is 90,000 cusecs, and the outflow is 82,000 cusecs. In the Indus River at Tarbela, low-level flooding is occurring. At Tunsa, Kalabagh, and Chashma, the Indus River’s water flow remains normal.
In response, the Punjab government has established flood relief camps in affected areas. All camps are equipped with basic facilities and medicines, according to PDMA.
Citizens are advised to take precautionary measures due to the prevailing weather. The DG PDMA warned against recreational activities near rivers, canals, and streams.
Meanwhile, other regions of the country are also on the verge of flooding.
According to the PDMA, there is a high risk of flash flooding in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, and Kohistan. Mansehra, Abbottabad, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, and Mardan have also been identified as at-risk districts. Urban flooding is particularly a threat in Nowshera and Mardan.
The authority has also warned of potential landslides in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Mansehra, and Abbottabad. Citizens and tourists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during the rainy period.
District administrations, police, and rescue agencies have been placed on alert to respond to emergencies.
Rainfall has been reported in Dunyapur, Vehari, Gujar Khan, Sarai Alamgir, and Wazirabad. The onset of rain has also caused disruptions in the power supply in several areas.
