150-year-old banyan tree restored in Karachi after rainfall collapse
A 150-year-old banyan tree in Karachi has been given a new life after it fell during recent monsoon rains. The restoration was carried out on the orders of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, who called it an important step for the environment and climate protection.
The historic tree at Qasr-e-Naz had toppled due to strong winds and rain. A two-day rescue operation was launched, during which the huge tree was carefully replanted with the help of cranes. The Sindh Forest Department reported that the tree’s roots had been weakened by fungus and termites, but it has now been relocated safely. Alongside, neem and kamini trees were also protected and replanted nearby.
In another development, Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi instructed local authorities to quickly repair rain-damaged roads. He visited several areas in District South, East, and Malir with deputy commissioners and municipal officials to review the damage and speed up repair work.
This effort highlights the city’s focus on both protecting nature and improving infrastructure after heavy rains.
