Govt Launches Simplified Tax Form for Salaried Class

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has unveiled a simplified tax return form for the salaried class, reducing the required fields from 800 to just 40 in a major step to ease the process for taxpayers.

Speaking at the conference on “Building a Resilient Public Financial Management Ecosystem,” hosted jointly by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) and the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), Aurangzeb highlighted that the government is now prioritizing implementation over policy debates.

The new tax form has already been uploaded on the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) website for a 40-day public consultation period. According to the minister, almost 80 percent of salaried taxpayers will benefit from this reform. “Our goal is to make the tax system more people-friendly,” he said, calling for active feedback from stakeholders.

Aurangzeb further announced that the responsibility of tax policy-making has been shifted from the FBR to the Ministry of Finance in order to ensure coherence and strengthen fiscal governance. He emphasized that taxation must remain rational and predictable, noting that ad hoc measures to fill revenue gaps have damaged industries in the past.
