BISP launches wallet account pilot project in 3 districts

BISP Launches Digital Wallet System for Women to Get Aid
The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has started a wallet account pilot project to make cash distribution easier, faster, and safer. This new system has been launched in three districts: Sukkur, Hyderabad, and Rahim Yar Khan.
Under this project, beneficiaries will receive their payments directly in digital wallet accounts, which are linked to their CNIC and mobile SIM. This is a big step toward digital financial inclusion, especially for poor women in Pakistan.
Key Features of the Wallet Project
Pilot districts: Sukkur, Hyderabad, Rahim Yar Khan
Wallet accounts linked with CNIC + SIM card
1.3 million free JazzCash SIMs for BISP beneficiaries
Automatic account opening on each SIM
Goal: Fast, transparent, and secure payment system
Why BISP Introduced Wallet Accounts
Earlier, BISP payments were given through camp sites and agents. This system caused many problems such as:
Long waiting lines and extra travel costs
Agents cutting money from payments
Delays in getting installments
Risk of fraud and mismanagement
With the new wallet system, beneficiaries will now get:
Direct transfer of the full payment (no cuts)
24/7 access to money through JazzCash agents or ATMs
Secure transactions with biometric and CNIC verification
Convenience without long queues
How the Wallet System Works
Free SIMs Distribution – JazzCash will give 1.3 million SIMs to BISP beneficiaries.
Linking with CNIC – Each SIM will be registered with the beneficiary’s CNIC.
Automatic Wallet Account – A digital wallet will open on the new SIM.
Payment Transfers – BISP installments (currently Rs. 13,500) will be deposited directly.
Cash Withdrawals – Beneficiaries can withdraw money from JazzCash agents, ATMs, and later through partner banks like HBL Konnect.
Benefits for Beneficiaries
Transparency – Payments recorded digitally, no fraud.
Convenience – Withdraw money anytime.
Financial Inclusion – Women get introduced to formal banking.
Security – CNIC-linked accounts reduce fraud risk.
Flexibility – No need to wait for camp days.
Possible Challenges
The system is modern, but some issues may arise, such as:
Lack of digital knowledge among women
Network problems in remote villages
Risk of sharing PIN/OTP with strangers
Managing smooth SIM distribution across districts
