MathGPT AI Tutor Reaches 50+ Colleges & Universities Across the US
As artificial intelligence reshapes classrooms, educators are turning to tools that strengthen learning rather than replace it. One such platform, MathGPT, was launched last year with the mission of serving as an “anti-cheating” tutor for students and a teaching assistant for professors.
Following a successful pilot across 30 U.S. colleges and universities, MathGPT is now set to nearly double its reach this fall. Institutions such as Penn State University, Tufts University, and Liberty University are among those adopting the AI-powered platform.
How MathGPT Works
Unlike typical chatbots, MathGPT does not simply provide answers. Instead, it relies on Socratic questioning, guiding learners with hints and follow-up prompts to encourage critical thinking. For professors, the platform offers robust support by generating assignments, quiz questions, and practice problems from uploaded textbooks. It also enables auto-grading, while giving instructors control over usage settings and student attempts.
Accessibility and Safety
MathGPT has introduced integrations with popular Learning Management Systems, including Canvas, Blackboard, and Brightspace. To ensure inclusivity, it provides features such as screen readers, closed captions, and audio mode. Developers emphasize strict guardrails to keep interactions focused on academics, avoiding the risks seen in other AI chatbots.
Looking ahead, MathGPT plans to launch a mobile app and expand beyond mathematics into fields like chemistry, economics, and accounting. The platform is available in both a free version and a paid plan at $25 per student, per course, which includes unlimited AI-powered assignments and LMS integration.
By combining accuracy with instructor-first design, MathGPT is positioning itself as a reliable bridge between AI and education, supporting both responsible student learning and practical faculty needs.
