Cause of Death Revealed for Biden-Appointed Prosecutor Jessica Aber

Former U.S. Attorney Jessica Aber, 43, who was found dead in her Virginia home earlier this year, died from sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP), officials confirmed.

The Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office ruled her death as natural, ending months of speculation. Aber, who was appointed by President Joe Biden in 2021 as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia (EDVA), had long suffered from epilepsy and epileptic seizures, according to her family.

She was discovered unresponsive in her Alexandria home on March 22, 2025. At the time, police noted there was no evidence of foul play and believed her death was due to natural causes.

Family Statement

Aber’s family previously revealed her history of epilepsy:
“Jess suffered from epilepsy and epileptic seizures for many years… our family is in shock and grieving deeply,” they said shortly after her passing.

Aber led one of the nation’s most influential prosecutorial districts, covering Northern Virginia, the Pentagon, Langley, Richmond, and the Port of Norfolk. During her tenure, she oversaw terrorism, espionage, corruption, and corporate crime cases.

She played key roles in cases such as:

• The prosecution of ex-CIA analyst Asif Rahman, who leaked Israeli military plans.

• Investigations into Russia-linked illegal activities.

In January 2025, Aber resigned from her post as Trump began his second presidential term, stating it was “a political job” and customary for Biden appointees to step aside.

In her resignation letter, she described the role as “an honor beyond measure”, praising her colleagues and law enforcement partners for their dedication.
