An 18-year-old cosplayer, Qian Yue, said she was attacked by a group of teenage girls while walking through Sydney’s Chinatown on Monday, August 25, 2025. The frightening incident happened around 7:30 pm in the busy CBD.
Yue, dressed in a bright pink cosplay dress, claimed one of the girls struck her on the head and ripped a blonde wig from her scalp. She said the group insulted her and her 17-year-old friend while recording the incident on their phones.
The young cosplayer shared part of the confrontation on social media. The clip, filmed by an onlooker, showed one girl swiping at Yue’s face with a mobile phone while her friend looked around for help.
“I was terrified. I cried and screamed for help, asking people to call police, but no one helped me,” Yue wrote online. She explained her friend did not have a phone and stayed close because he feared she might be attacked again.
Yue said she waited an hour for police to arrive but later decided to go with her friend to the station. There, she claimed officers refused to take action, saying the attackers were minors and that there was no serious physical harm.
When leaving the station, Yue and her friend allegedly encountered the same group of girls again. She said the teenagers fired water guns, hurled insults, and followed them. At one point, Yue managed to catch one girl and asked her to delete the videos and apologise. Still, bystanders refused to call the police.
Yue added her friend was bitten and scratched on the hand, while both his knees were injured from kicks. The situation became worse when a man, believing they were harassing the girls, struck them. Yue said she ran, screamed, and was eventually pushed to the ground, fainting before police arrived.
NSW Police later confirmed they received a report of the assault. Officers said both victims were verbally harassed and then attacked by three teenage girls. Police confirmed no medical treatment was required but stated that investigations are ongoing.
