Development Now Reaching All Cities: Maryam Nawaz

17 September, 2025 16:13

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz visited Wazirabad on Wednesday, where she addressed a public gathering and inaugurated the city’s first electric bus service. She described the new transport system as a gift to the people of Wazirabad, marking the first time the city has received a public transportation service.

Maryam Nawaz stated that previously, development was limited to major cities, but now every city in Punjab is being developed. She said that a new metro system will soon be constructed in Gujranwala, which she claimed would be even better than Lahore’s existing metro. She also noted that crime in the area has decreased due to the effective operations of the CCD (Crime Control Department).

The chief minister announced that travel between Gujranwala and Wazirabad will now cost only Rs. 20, down from Rs. 200. She further stated that senior citizens, women, and children can travel on these electric buses for free. By the end of the year, 1,100 green buses will be operational across Punjab.

She also discussed the government’s housing scheme, revealing that 80,000 houses are currently under construction under the “Apna Ghar Apni Chhat” initiative.

Addressing the recent floods in Punjab, Maryam Nawaz said the province faced one of the worst flood situations in its history. She credited timely government action for preventing greater disaster and thanked all departments, including the Army, Rescue teams, Health Department, and the “Suthra Punjab” team, for their joint efforts.

She said around 2.5 million people were rescued and shifted to safer places. Fully affected families would receive Rs. 10 lakh, while those with partial damage to their homes would get Rs. 5 lakh. The government is also ensuring three meals a day for affected families and fodder for their livestock.

Maryam Nawaz concluded by saying that the government would not rest until every flood-affected individual is properly rehabilitated.
