17 September, 2025 18:01

Pakistan’s star javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem has secured a place in the men’s javelin throw final at the World Athletics Championships 2025 in Tokyo, keeping his hopes alive for another major medal.

The Olympic gold medalist gave fans an anxious moment in the qualification round after two underwhelming attempts. His first throw reached 76.99 metres, while his second throw dropped further to 74.17 metres, both falling short of the automatic qualification mark of 84.50 metres.

However, on his third and final attempt, Nadeem bounced back in style, clearing the 84.50m mark and ensuring his qualification. The effort sparked relief and celebration among his supporters back home.

The 27-year-old athlete from Mian Channu, who set an Olympic record with a 92.97m throw at Paris 2024, is currently ranked 11th in Group B. He will now face a tough contest in the final against defending champion Neeraj Chopra, who comfortably qualified earlier in the day.

Nadeem has previously proven himself on the world stage, clinching silver at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest with a throw of 87.82m. His qualification in Tokyo sets up an exciting showdown between two of the sport’s biggest names.
