Donald Trump’s Awkward Moment With Princess Kate at Windsor Banquet Goes Viral

18 September, 2025 16:43

On September 17, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump faced criticism online after an awkward interaction with Princess Kate at a State Banquet in Windsor Castle.

The Chair Incident

Trump was seated between King Charles III and Princess Kate during the banquet. As Kate prepared to sit down, an attendant moved in to adjust her chair. At the same time, Trump also leaned over and attempted to tuck in her chair.

The small gesture caused a stir. Many social media users felt it was unnecessary and out of place, especially given Kate’s royal position.

Viral Clip on Social Media

A video clip of the moment quickly went viral on X (Twitter). It was viewed more than 217,000 times and gained hundreds of comments. One post read: “Ew, don’t touch her chair.”

The incident added to Trump’s complicated history with the Princess. By coincidence, the banquet came exactly 13 years after Trump’s controversial tweet in 2012, where he made remarks about Kate being photographed while sunbathing.

A Glamorous Banquet Evening

The banquet was part of Trump’s state visit to the U.K. The day began with his arrival by Marine One at Windsor. He and First Lady Melania Trump later joined the royals for a carriage procession and paid tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II at her tomb.

Princess Kate looked stunning in a Phillipa Lepley silk gown with a hand-embroidered lace evening coat and the famous Lover’s Knot Tiara. Photos showed Trump leaning towards Kate as they made eye contact during King Charles III’s speech, which sparked more online debate.

What People Said

In his speech, Trump praised the royal family. He called Prince William a “remarkable son” and described Princess Kate as “radiant, healthy, and beautiful.”

But reactions online were mixed. One user wrote that Kate looked uncomfortable and “like a doll for Trump’s delight.”

What’s Next

Trump left Windsor for a meeting with British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer at Chequers, where discussions on trade and Ukraine were expected. Meanwhile, Melania Trump stayed behind to meet Princess Kate and Scout leaders at Windsor.
