Australia is set to welcome its very first Golden Bachelor, with Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden stepping into the spotlight as the leading man of the new reality series. The 61-year-old, originally from Canada and now living on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, is ready to find love again on national television.

As the star of The Golden Bachelor Australia, Barry will meet over 20 women vying for his heart when the series premieres in 2025 with Samantha Armytage as host. Audiences, who have missed the traditional rose ceremonies since The Bachelor was cancelled in 2023, are eagerly awaiting the drama and romance.

“This is for people who are looking for love again. I kind of love that – these are people with life experience, and it’s totally fascinating,” Barry shared during an appearance on the Today show.

Barry, an infrastructure engineer with the Woolworths group, has a deeply personal journey. He lost his wife, Audrey, in 2011 after she battled a rare and malignant brain cancer diagnosed in 2009. Together, they shared three sons – Charlie, Jack, and Declan – who encouraged him to take this leap back into love.

The upcoming season promises a diverse lineup of contestants, including doctors, interior designers, radio personalities, and even the mother of TV host and podcaster Abbie Chatfield, who herself starred on The Bachelor in 2019.
