Who Won Norm Smith 2025? Will Ashcroft Wins Medal After Brisbane Lions Grand Final Victory

27 September, 2025 13:34

Saturday, September 27, 2025 – The AFL Grand Final ended with a historic moment as Will Ashcroft was awarded the 2025 Norm Smith Medal for best on ground. The young Brisbane Lions star became the youngest player in history to win the medal back-to-back.

Ashcroft Joins AFL Greats

Ashcroft’s win follows his 2024 success, placing him in an elite group of AFL legends. Only Andrew McLeod and Dustin Martin had previously achieved consecutive Norm Smith Medal victories. Now, at just 21 years old, Ashcroft has matched their record and gone one step further by being the youngest to do it.

Saturday’s medal was presented by Luke Hodge, himself a two-time Norm Smith winner. The award is named after Norm Smith, who guided Melbourne to six premierships as coach and won four as a player.

Grand Final Performance

Ashcroft dominated the field, finishing the 2025 Grand Final with 32 disposals, 10 clearances, and one goal. His leadership and skill were key in Brisbane’s 122-75 win over Geelong at the MCG.

Teammate Charlie Cameron praised Ashcroft’s efforts: “Two-time Norm Smith is pretty crazy. Back-to-back in a premiership year – it’s unreal.”

Brisbane Lions’ Historic Moment

The victory gave Brisbane back-to-back AFL premierships, making them one of the most dominant teams in recent years. Ashcroft’s back-to-back Norm Smith Medals add another layer to the club’s growing history of success, joining past Lions winners Shaun Hart (2001) and Simon Black (2003).
