Karachi Police Warn Public Against Fake Traffic Challan Payment SMS Scam
Karachi residents are being targeted by scammers sending fraudulent traffic challan payment alerts via SMS, falsely claiming payments can be made through mobile services such as Easypaisa. The Karachi Traffic Police have confirmed that these messages are fake, misleading, and not issued by any government authority.
Officials explained that scammers are distributing these false SMS alerts from personal or unverified numbers, urging citizens to pay traffic fines using mobile payment platforms. The Karachi Traffic Police clarified that they never send payment instructions through personal SMS numbers and that these messages are unrelated to the official traffic fine system.
The Karachi Traffic Police spokesperson emphasized, “These fake traffic challan messages are not related to the new traffic fine system.” Citizens are strongly advised not to click on suspicious links or transfer money in response to such messages. For verification of any traffic fines, the official helpline 1915 remains available.
In October 2025, Karachi will launch a faceless e-challan system where traffic violations will be recorded by CCTV cameras, and fine notices will be sent directly to the registered addresses of violators. Payment information will only be accessible via the official Karachi Traffic Police website and authorized government platforms.
The Traffic Police urged the public to remain vigilant, avoid sharing personal or financial information, and make all challan payments through legitimate government channels. To confirm the authenticity of any challan, citizens should contact the helpline 1915 or visit the official traffic police website.
To protect yourself from such scams:
- Do not trust SMS messages requesting challan payments via Easypaisa or private numbers.
- Verify challans only through the official Karachi Traffic Police portal.
- Report suspicious messages immediately by calling the police helpline 1915.
