UAE Introduces Event Visas Alongside One-Year Refugee Permits
ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirates has announced sweeping reforms to its visa system aimed at attracting global talent, supporting vulnerable groups, and boosting tourism and business opportunities.
As part of the changes, a new visa has been introduced for specialists in artificial intelligence (AI). Officials said the initiative is intended to reinforce the UAE’s role as a hub for technology and innovation.
A new “event visa” has also been launched, covering visitors attending conferences, exhibitions, festivals, and sporting events. Authorities said the move is designed to facilitate travel for participants and organizers of large-scale gatherings.
To strengthen the marine tourism sector, tourists arriving by cruise ships or leisure boats will now be eligible for a multiple-entry maritime visa.
In a humanitarian step, the UAE will provide one-year residence permits to individuals fleeing wars or natural disasters. These permits will not require sponsorship. In addition, widows and divorced women will be able to obtain residency independently.
For family visit visas, income requirements have been set for sponsors. A minimum salary of AED 4,000 will be needed to bring first-degree relatives, AED 8,000 for second- and third-degree relatives, and AED 15,000 to sponsor a friend.
Business visas will require applicants to show proof of financial solvency or ownership of a company abroad. Meanwhile, foreign lorry drivers will only qualify for visas if they are sponsored by licensed transport or freight companies.
