04 September, 2026 13:31

The Indian Army is facing serious questions over its internal system, training and security measures, in addition to challenges on the battlefield.

According to India Today, former Indian soldier Shivanand Reddy attempted suicide after becoming frustrated over delays in a land allocation dispute. The former soldier had reportedly been seeking land reserved for defence personnel for the past 20 years.

The New Indian Express reported that 59 personnel in India’s Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) died by suicide last year due to frustration and mental pressure.

According to News18, five Indian soldiers were swept away during a military training exercise in Haryana, with two still missing. Reports said a technical problem caused their boat to drift into strong currents.

The Hindu also reported that four rifles and other weapons were stolen from a military facility in Secunderabad, raising serious concerns about security. The suspects reportedly entered the highly secured area and reached the weapons storage location.

These incidents have raised concerns over training standards, security arrangements, management and the overall preparedness of the Indian military.
