Earthquake: Mild Magnitude Tremor Shakes Karachi
A mild earthquake was felt in Karachi on Wednesday morning. According to reports, a 3.2 magnitude tremor shook parts of the city, including Landhi and Malir, at 9:34 AM. The earthquake’s epicenter was located about seven kilometers north of Malir, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Karachi recently experienced a series of small earthquakes in early June 2025. Between June 1st and June 3rd, the city felt nearly 36 earthquakes ranging in magnitude from 2.5 to 3.6. These tremors were linked to the activity along the Landhi Fault Line.
Karachi lies near the boundary of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, making it vulnerable to earthquakes, although the city usually experiences milder tremors compared to northern Pakistan.
In the past, Karachi has felt stronger earthquakes, including a major quake in 2001 that caused significant damage. The larger Sindh region was also affected by the 1945 Mekran coast earthquake and tsunami.
Residents are advised to stay alert and follow safety measures during such events.
