Zardari Raises Serious Concerns With Mohsin Naqvi Over Political Targeting
Lahore: An important meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has stirred political circles, as inside sources reveal sharp concerns raised by the President over recent actions against political allies, particularly the Awami National Party (ANP) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
According to sources, President Zardari expressed strong anger over the arrest of ANP leader Aimal Wali Khan and the withdrawal of security from PPP parliamentarians. He reportedly demanded a full report from the interior minister on both matters.
President Zardari also directed Mohsin Naqvi to raise the issue with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, questioning the motive and authority behind decisions targeting the leadership of two major political parties. He reportedly asked, “On whose instructions are such decisions being made against the leadership of PPP and ANP?”
Sources further stated that the President voiced concern over the withdrawal of security from Aimal Wali, warning that such a step could lead to a tragic incident. “The ANP has already lost several leaders to terrorism,” he reminded the interior minister.
According to party insiders, President Zardari conveyed that the PPP is being punished for standing by the coalition government during difficult times, and that ill-advised decisions are pushing PPP to the wall, both inside and outside Parliament.
He stressed that political disagreements must not turn into personal revenge, and advised the government to avoid such actions that damage trust among allies.
In addition to this confrontation, the meeting also included discussions on the country’s overall political climate, administrative issues, and internal security matters, according to sources familiar with the conversation.
