London, October 7: A 26-year-old Indian-origin man, Vruj Patel, has been sentenced to 22 years in prison after being found guilty of multiple s*xual offences, including the rape of a child under 13. The sentencing took place at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Tuesday, according to the Metropolitan Police. Patel, a resident of Seldson Road, E13, London, will also remain on the s*x offenders’ register for life.

Brother also sentenced for child abuse material

Vruj’s elder brother, Kishan Patel, aged 31, was sentenced to 15 months in prison for possessing indecent images of children. He was also handed a 10-year S*xual Harm Prevention Order.

Arrest and investigation details

The disturbing case began on February 1, when Greater Manchester Police alerted the Met Police after receiving a report about illegal videos found on a device sent for repair. The device belonged to Kishan Patel. Upon analysis, detectives found graphic videos showing s*xual offences involving a young girl who was known to both brothers.

Investigators quickly identified Vruj Patel as the man in the videos. Further inquiries revealed evidence of another assault involving a young woman after a university night out in 2018. Police believe his crimes may have continued for several years.

List of charges against Vruj Patel

Vruj Patel pleaded guilty to a series of serious s*xual offences, including:

  • Rape of a child under 13

  • Assault of a child under 13 by penetration

  • Causing a child under 13 to engage in s*xual activity (4 counts)

  • Rape and s*xual assault of a woman over 16

  • Possession of indecent images of children

Detective Sergeant Rob Blant, who led the investigation, described Patel as a “cowardly, opportunistic offender” who preyed on vulnerable victims for his own gratification.

  • Making indecent images of children (Category A, B, and C)

  • Possession of indecent images (over 2,000 files in total)

Police appeal for more victims

Authorities believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward. “There may be other instances where children visiting his home, or the homes of those around him, had been placed under his care,” the Met Police said in a public appeal.

Anyone with information or concerns has been urged to contact the Met’s Child Abuse Investigation Team.
