Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has confirmed the discovery of new gas reserves in Kotri Block No. 1, located in District Jamshoro, Sindh.
According to an official notification submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange, the discovery was made during drilling operations at a well named Barkhi-1. The drilling commenced on July 21 and continued until a depth of 3,392 feet was reached, where the presence of hydrocarbons was confirmed.
“During a complete integrity test, the well initially produced 1.5 million cubic feet of gas per day,” the company stated. Following acid stimulation treatment to enhance output, production rose significantly to 5.5 million cubic feet per day. “At present, the well is supplying gas at a pressure exceeding 460 pounds per square inch,” PPL added.
This development represents a significant step in strengthening Pakistan’s domestic energy production. PPL also revealed that initial research and exploration work has begun in the Kotri North Block to assess further potential gas reserves.
The discovery in Kotri comes shortly after a similar announcement by the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), which recently reported new oil and gas finds in Sindh’s Khairpur District—highlighting ongoing momentum in the country’s energy exploration sector.
