Sindh Introduces New Grading System for Classes 9 to 12 from Next Academic Year
Karachi schools closed tomorrow amid heavy rains and flood threat
The Universities and Boards Department of Sindh has announced a major change in the examination system for students of grades 9 to 12. From the next academic year, results will no longer be shown in total marks or percentages. Instead, students will receive grades according to a new standardized grading structure.
Key Changes in the New Grading System
One of the biggest changes is the increase in passing marks from 33% to 40%. This step is aimed at raising academic standards and aligning with international education systems.
New Grade Distribution
40% to 49% – Pass
50% to 59% – D Grade
60% to 69% – C Grade
70% to 74% – B Grade
75% to 79% – B+ Grade
80% to 84% – B+ Grade (as mentioned in reports)
85% to 89% – A Grade
90% to 94% – A+ Grade
95% to 100% – A+ Grade
(The department is expected to review overlapping ranges like B+ for clarity before implementation.)
Why This Change?
According to the Sindh Universities and Boards Department, this new grading policy follows international standards. It aims to provide a fair and clear evaluation of student performance, reducing pressure linked to high mark competition.
Impact on Students and Schools
Students will focus more on concepts rather than just marks.
Schools will adopt new reporting formats.
Colleges and universities will adapt admission criteria to the new grading scale.
The department believes this reform will modernize the education system and improve how student achievements are measured across Sindh.
