Naan, roti prices increased while authorities remain inactive - check new rates
Tandoor owners in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and Lahore have increased the prices of naan and roti without any official approval, adding more pressure on daily wage earners and low-income families.
Despite the unauthorized price hike, the administrations of all three cities have not taken any visible action so far. Residents have expressed anger and frustration over the rising cost of basic food items and the lack of government monitoring.
New Prices of Roti and Naan
According to reports, the price of roti has gone up from Rs15 to Rs20, while naan is now being sold for Rs30 instead of the official rate of Rs25.
The price of kulcha has increased from Rs30 to Rs35–40, and paratha is now being sold at Rs60, compared to the previous price of Rs50.
People are urging local authorities to take immediate action and ensure that tandoor owners follow the officially approved rates so that bread remains affordable for everyone.
Wheat Shortage and Government Measures
The Punjab government has recently tightened regulations on the movement of wheat and flour across provincial borders by introducing a permit system to control prices.
However, wheat prices continue to rise across the country due to supply shortages. The provincial government also banned the use of wheat in animal feed in September 2025 after it was found that large quantities were being used for livestock.
Experts believe that due to the shortage and flood-related losses, Pakistan may need to import at least 1.5 million tonnes of wheat to stabilize the market and ensure enough supply for local consumption.
