Pakistan extends ceasefire at request of Afghan government

17 October, 2025 19:25

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has extended the ceasefire with the Afghan interim government following a request made through diplomatic channels, sources confirmed on Friday.

According to diplomatic sources, the temporary 48-hour ceasefire, which was set to end at 6pm today, has now been extended until the conclusion of the Doha talks.

The request for an extension was made by the Afghan Taliban regime through Qatar, with the aim of continuing dialogue to ease border tensions between the two sides.

Officials said Pakistan agreed to the extension to support the ongoing diplomatic process and promote peace in the region.

The earlier ceasefire had been announced after cross-border incidents, allowing both sides to hold constructive discussions.
