Pakistan, Afghan Taliban Hold Second Round of Talks in Istanbul
A second major round of talks between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban is scheduled to take place today in the Turkish city of Istanbul. The discussions will focus on strengthening cooperation to tackle the threat of cross-border terrorism and establishing an effective monitoring mechanism.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi and the Taliban’s spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid, the talks represent an important step toward regional peace and stability.
The Pakistani side says the main objective is stopping terrorist attacks on Pakistan originating from Afghan territory and setting up a clear, transparent and verifiable system to monitor compliance.
Islamabad argues that a joint strategy and monitoring system are essential for lasting peace. Earlier, the first round of talks was held in Doha under the mediation of Qatar and Turkey, where both sides agreed in principle to a ceasefire and committed to continued dialogue.
