Who Is Akil Khan? Accused In Australian Women’s Cricket Team Molestation Case Arrested

25 October, 2025 15:42

Two members of the Australian women’s cricket team, currently participating in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in India, were allegedly stalked and one of them molested by a man in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Police have identified the accused as Akil Khan, who was arrested.

According to police officials, the incident occurred on Thursday morning along Khajrana Road. The two cricketers had stepped out of their hotel and were walking towards a nearby café when a man on a motorcycle began following them. Sub-Inspector Nidhi Raghuvanshi stated that the accused “allegedly touched one of the cricketers inappropriately before speeding away from the spot.”

The players immediately informed their team’s security officer, Danny Simmons, who then contacted the local security liaison officers and arranged for a vehicle to ensure the players’ safety. Following the complaint, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Himani Mishra met the cricketers, recorded their statements, and initiated legal proceedings.

An FIR has been registered at the MIG Police Station under Sections 74 (use of criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty) and 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

A bystander reportedly managed to note down the motorcycle’s registration number, which allowed the police to identify and arrest the accused. Police confirmed that Akil Khan has multiple prior criminal cases registered against him. “Khan has prior criminal cases registered against him, and an investigation is on in the case,” ACP Mishra said.

The incident occurred just hours before Australia’s final group-stage match against South Africa at Holkar Stadium in Indore. Both teams have already qualified for the semi-finals, with the match result set to determine the group leader. Australia currently lead the table with 11 points from six matches, followed closely by South Africa with 10 points.

The disturbing incident has raised serious questions about player safety during international tournaments, prompting calls for enhanced security arrangements for visiting teams.
