Punjab to ban vehicles without green stickers from Nov 15, 2025
LAHORE: The Punjab Environment Protection Department has announced a strict ban on vehicles without green stickers, starting November 15, 2025. These stickers will only be given to vehicles that pass the exhaust emission test.
According to Director General (DG) Environment Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh, all vehicles in Lahore must now undergo exhaust testing to help reduce air pollution. The department has already started action against smoke-emitting and noisy vehicles across the city.
From November 15, any vehicle found on the road without a valid Exhaust Testing System (ETS) certificate or green sticker will be seized. Only vehicles meeting Punjab’s environmental standards will be allowed to operate.
Dr. Sheikh warned that strict action will be taken against violators. He urged citizens to get their vehicles tested as soon as possible to avoid fines or confiscation. The campaign has started in Lahore and will soon expand to other cities in Punjab.
In a related development, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the province’s first Environment Protection Squad to fight pollution and smog. She also launched new systems, including the Environmental Approval Management System and the Vehicle Emission Testing System.
During the event, CM Maryam Nawaz placed the first green sticker on a vehicle that passed the emissions test.
Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb explained that the new Environment Protection Force is divided into squads — the Green Squad will tackle plastic pollution and dust; the Blue Squad will protect water resources; the Black Squad will focus on vehicle emissions; and the Red Squad will monitor industries and hospitals for toxic waste.
To support these teams, the government has provided 25 hybrid cars, 200 electric bikes, 360-degree surveillance vehicles, 11 thermal drones, and mobile air quality stations. These steps aim to ensure cleaner air and a healthier environment for Punjab’s citizens.
