Federal Cabinet Meeting on 27th Amendment Postponed Due to PM’s Busy Schedule

07 November, 2025 10:05

Islamabad — The federal cabinet meeting scheduled for Friday to approve the draft of the 27th Constitutional Amendment has been postponed, sources confirmed. The delay reportedly came due to the busy schedule of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

PM’s One-Day Visit to Azerbaijan

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had earlier called a meeting this morning to finalize and approve the draft of the amendment. However, due to his official visit to Azerbaijan, the meeting could not take place.

According to government insiders, the cabinet was expected to receive a detailed briefing on the proposed amendment before giving formal approval. The draft will now be discussed in the next cabinet session, which is likely to be held after the PM’s return.

Focus on Building Political Consensus

The federal government is currently working on building consensus among coalition partners before presenting the bill to parliament. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), MQM-P, and other allies have been in consultation with the Prime Minister over the past few days.

Officials said the 27th Amendment aims to introduce structural changes in the constitutional framework, but the government wants to ensure agreement among all political forces to avoid any friction.

Next Steps for the Amendment Bill

After cabinet approval, the bill will be formally presented in parliament, first in the Senate, where it will likely be referred to a joint parliamentary committee for further review. The committee will have limited time to assess the clauses and provide recommendations before final voting.

Government sources believe the process will take several days, but efforts are underway to achieve smooth passage through both houses of parliament.
