The Senate session on Sunday officially began discussions on the 27th Constitutional Amendment. During the proceedings, opposition leaders expressed their strong opposition to the proposed changes and vowed to launch a protest movement against the amendment.
Senate Chairperson Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani opened the session with a tribute to the national poet Allama Iqbal, marking his birth anniversary.
Senator Ali Zafar of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) spoke out against the amendment, reaffirming his party’s stance. He warned that altering the Constitution would be like “tampering with the foundation of a building,” adding that the nation, like a structure, was being weakened by such actions. He emphasized that these changes could undermine the very foundation of the country.
