Martyrdom Anniversary of Captain Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed Being Observed Today

Captain Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed was the first Pakistani soldier to receive the Nishan-e-Haider, the country’s highest military award for bravery.

Pakistan’s military history is filled with stories of courage, sacrifice and devotion to the country. Captain Muhammad Sarwar set an example of bravery and patriotism by giving his life in defence of the motherland.

The 78th martyrdom anniversary of Captain Muhammad Sarwar is being observed on July 27. After the creation of Pakistan, he joined the Pakistan Army and later served as a company commander in the 2nd Battalion of the Punjab Regiment.

During the 1948 Kashmir war, Captain Sarwar led an attack on a key enemy position in the Uri sector on July 27, 1948. Despite strong resistance and heavy firing, he continued advancing and encouraged his fellow soldiers.

Several soldiers were martyred and injured during the attack, but Captain Sarwar remained determined. While attempting to break through the enemy’s defensive position, he was hit by a bullet in the chest and embraced martyrdom.

In recognition of his exceptional courage and sacrifice, Captain Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed was awarded the Nishan-e-Haider. His sacrifice remains a symbol of courage, dedication and love for the country and continues to inspire future generations.
