The Punjab Home Department has extended the enforcement of Section 144 across the province for another seven days, citing heightened security concerns and the need to maintain public order. The restriction will now remain in effect until Saturday, November 15.
The extended order bans all forms of protests, sit-ins, and similar public activities. It also prohibits gatherings of four or more people in public spaces, the display of weapons, and the use of loudspeakers. The publication and distribution of inflammatory or sectarian material are also banned.
According to the notification, loudspeakers can only be used for Azan (call to prayer) and Friday sermons. Inflammatory or hateful material is strictly prohibited, and authorities have warned that large public gatherings could serve as “soft targets” for potential terrorist attacks.
While the restrictions are widespread, they do not apply to private events such as weddings, funerals, or burials. Government officers, officials performing official duties, and court activities are also exempt from the ban.
The Punjab government has urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure peace and security during this period. The decision comes amid rising concerns over potential threats to public safety.
