Rs10,000 penalty for throwing trash from cars under Punjab’s new rules

LAHORE: The Punjab government has introduced new amendments to the Motor Vehicle Act, bringing in heavy fines for eight major traffic violations. The aim is to make drivers follow traffic rules more strictly and keep roads safe and organized.

Under the new rules, owners of smoke-emitting or polluting vehicles will face serious penalties.

  • Motorcyclists: Rs5,000

  • Cars and Jeeps: Rs10,000

  • Public service vehicles: Rs15,000

  • Heavy transport vehicles: Rs20,000

The government has also set fines for throwing litter from moving vehicles.

  • Motorcycles: Rs2,000

  • Cars and Jeeps: Rs10,000

  • Public service vehicles: Rs15,000

  • Heavy vehicles: Rs20,000

Similar fines will apply for parking in no-parking areas.

For not wearing seatbelts, the fines are:

  • Cars and Jeeps: Rs10,000

  • Public service vehicles: Rs15,000

  • Heavy vehicles: Rs20,000

The highest fines are for underage driving, reaching up to:

  • Motorcycles: Rs25,000

  • Cars and Jeeps: Rs30,000

  • Public service vehicles: Rs50,000

  • Heavy vehicles: Rs100,000

Drivers using mobile phones while driving will also be fined:

  • Motorcyclists: Rs5,000

  • Cars and Jeeps: Rs10,000

  • Public service vehicles: Rs15,000

  • Heavy vehicles: Rs20,000

In addition, motorcycles carrying more than two passengers will be fined Rs5,000, and parking on footpaths or main roads will lead to fines ranging from Rs2,000 to Rs20,000, depending on the type of vehicle.

According to the Punjab government, these new fines are meant to encourage responsible driving, reduce road accidents, and protect public safety and property.
