Karachi Traffic Police Introduces New Speed Limits on Shahrah-e-Faisal

14 November, 2025 10:37

The Karachi Traffic Police have announced new speed limits on Shahrah-e-Faisal to improve road safety and reduce traffic violations. This move comes alongside the launch of the E-Challan system, which automatically issues fines for traffic offenses.

New Speed Limits

According to DSP Admin Kashif Nadeem, the speed limit for passenger vehicles, including cars and jeeps, has been set at 60 kilometers per hour. Heavy vehicles such as buses and trucks are limited to 30 kilometers per hour.

E-Challan System Enforcement

Newly installed cameras on Shahrah-e-Faisal will automatically issue e-challans to vehicles exceeding the speed limit. This AI-driven system is part of the Traffic Regulation and Citation System (TRACS), launched by the Sindh Chief Minister on October 27, 2025. Authorities aim to reduce accidents, manage congestion, and enhance road safety through automated monitoring.

Public Response and Fine Adjustments

The e-challan system has already issued around 30,000 fines in its first week, mostly for not wearing seatbelts, using dark-tinted windows, and riding motorcycles without helmets. Due to public backlash over high fines, the Sindh government is now considering lowering challan amounts for some offenses.

Purpose of New Measures

The combined effort of speed limits and e-challans is intended to enforce traffic discipline, protect road users, and ensure safer commutes on one of Karachi’s busiest routes.
