Saudi Arabia on Alert for Severe Weather: Thunderstorms, Heavy Rain, and Flash Flood Risk
Saudi Arabia is preparing for several days of unsettled weather as a large storm system moves across the country, bringing with it the risk of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and possible flash floods. The National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) has issued a broad weather warning, advising that the unstable conditions will persist from Sunday through to Tuesday, with varying intensities expected across different regions.
The storm is set to affect many areas of the Kingdom, with particularly strong rain forecasted for cities in the western belt, including Mecca, Jeddah, Medina, Tabuk, Al Baha, Asir, and Jazan. The central and northern regions, including Riyadh, Hail, Al Qassim, Al Jouf, and the Northern Borders, are also likely to experience significant rainfall. The Eastern Province, including Dammam and Khobar, is likewise under the alert.
Authorities have called on residents to exercise caution, especially in areas prone to flash flooding and water accumulation. Civil defence officials are on high alert, particularly in coastal and mountainous regions, where the risk of flooding is heightened. Drivers are being urged to stay alert on the roads, as heavy rain can reduce visibility and make surfaces slippery, posing increased risks for travel.
Meteorologists have warned that the storm may bring varying levels of rainfall across the Kingdom, with some areas facing heavy downpours that could cause temporary disruptions. Government agencies and emergency response teams are closely monitoring the situation and are prepared to respond to any emergencies that may arise.
The public is advised to stay informed through official channels and to prioritize safety during the weather event. As conditions evolve, authorities will continue to provide updates, and residents are encouraged to heed warnings to mitigate the potential dangers of flash floods and severe weather.
