Opposition Leader Appointment in National Assembly Faces Further Delay
The government has reportedly rejected the nominee of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Mehmood Achakzai; as a result, the National Assembly’s opposition leader once again has been delayed.
The parliamentary source in this regard claimed that the government has informed PTI that Achakzai is unacceptable for the position.
The sources further said that the government has officially asked PTI to submit a new name for the role of opposition leader in the lower house, further prolonging the already stalled process.
Meanwhile, reservations have also emerged regarding the opposition’s nominee for Senate opposition leader. According to insiders, the government has expressed objections to the nomination of Raja Nasir Abbas, who was put forward for the position of Leader of the Opposition in the Senate.
Parliamentary sources additionally revealed that the government wants a different candidate in place of Allama Nasir Abbas for the Senate opposition leader slot as well.
Moreover, the progress came to light at the moment when negotiations between the government and the opposition have been slow, raising concerns that the delay could impact legislative business and deepen political tensions within parliament.
