KP CM Sohail Afridi Appears Before ECP in Threat Case

Islamabad: Sohail Afridi, the Chief Minister (CM) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), appeared before the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in a case of threatening election staff in the by-elections.

Regarding the case, a five-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja heard the case against Chief Minister Sohail Afridi for violating the code of conduct and threatening election staff.

The Election Commission had summoned Sohail Afridi in person at the previous hearing, upon which Chief Minister Sohail Afridi appeared before the Election Commission today, accompanied by his lawyer Ali Bukhari.

During the hearing, lawyer Ali Bukhari said that there are two or three more petitions related to NA-18; they should be combined. On this, the Special Secretary Law said that this case should be considered separately.

The Special Secretary Law argued that the commission has the authority to take action if its instructions are not followed. Action should be taken on this case in accordance with the Election Act and the Constitution. Those responsible should respond on the merits. I will assist the commission.

The Special Secretary Law said that according to the monitoring officer’s report, this is tantamount to violation of the law and failure to follow the instructions of the Election Commission.

It should be noted that Chief Minister Sohail Afridi is facing a case of threatening staff during the election campaign in NA-18.
