Football legend Lionel Messi has once again rewritten the record books, becoming the first player in the world to reach 1,300 career goal contributions in official matches. The Inter Miami superstar achieved this historic milestone during his team’s commanding 4-0 win over FC Cincinnati in the MLS Eastern Conference semi-finals on Sunday.

The 38-year-old Argentine showcased his all-around brilliance by contributing to all four goals, scoring one stunning header and providing three decisive assists. Messi’s tally now stands at 1,300 combined contributions, comprising 896 goals and a world-record 404 assists.

In comparison, longtime rival Cristiano Ronaldo, currently playing for Al-Nassr, has 1,213 career goal contributions (954 goals and 259 assists). Messi’s record places him 87 contributions ahead of Ronaldo despite playing 163 fewer matches (1,135 vs. 1,298), underlining his extraordinary efficiency and consistency on the field.

The landmark performance also secured Inter Miami’s first-ever place in the Eastern Conference Final. Messi expressed his excitement on social media: “LET’S GOOOO!!! Great match from the whole team against a rival that has always given us so much trouble. One step closer….”

This achievement cements Messi’s legacy not only as a prolific goalscorer but also as an exceptional playmaker, highlighting his unique vision, technical skill, and ability to influence matches at the highest level. His ongoing rivalry with Ronaldo continues to captivate football fans around the world.
