US Detains Afghan National Over Texas Bomb Plot
The DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated that an Afghan national who entered the United States through the Biden administration’s Operation Allies Welcome program was arrested in Fort Worth after allegedly threatening to blow a facility.
Mohammad Dawood Alokozay was arrested by the Texas Department of Public Safety and the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force. He’s been charged with making terrorist threats.
Authorities said Alokozay released a TikTok video in which he appeared to indicate he was building an explosive device with the intention of targeting the Fort Worth region. McLaughlin verified that Alokozay landed in the United States as part of Operation Allies Welcome, a 2021 project designed to resettle Afghan people following the US military withdrawal from Afghanistan. She also mentioned that US Immigration and Customs Enforcement had issued a detainer against him.
McLaughlin noted that Alokozay’s detention came one day before a shooting near the White House that killed one National Guard man and injured another. Officials have not said whether the two instances are connected.
WFAA contacted DHS, the FBI, and the Texas Department of Public Safety for more details on Alokozay’s arrest.
