PTI to Close Swabi Motorway on December 1 for Protest Demanding Imran Khan’s Release
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced that the Swabi Motorway will be closed on December 1, 2025, as part of a one-day protest demanding the release of the party’s founder, Imran Khan.
PTI leader Ahmed Khan Niazi stated that the party will lead a major rally from the Peshawar Motorway on December 1, heading to Swabi, where the central protest gathering is scheduled. According to Niazi, the demonstration aims not only to shut down the motorway but also to pressure authorities into granting a court-ordered meeting with Imran Khan and securing his immediate release. PTI claims the cases against its founder are politically motivated.
Niazi emphasized that the protest will be peaceful and enjoys public backing. He added that party workers have been strictly instructed not to take the law into their own hands during the demonstration.
Earlier this week, Adiala jail authorities confirmed that the incarcerated former prime minister Imran Khan is alive and remains in Rawalpindi’s jail, firmly denying viral social media claims suggesting that Khan had either been secretly moved or had died in custody. “The rebuttal came after a wave of online posts, including from a number of India-linked websites and social media accounts, suggested without evidence that Khan’s health had worsened and that authorities were hiding his death.”
Despite the official denial, PTI spokesperson Syed Zulfiqar Bukhari stated that the core concern of the family remains unaddressed, as the former premier has allegedly been kept alone for six weeks and court-ordered visitations have been ignored.
The upcoming protest is aimed at pressing authorities to allow Imran Khan to meet with his family and party members, highlighting the party’s ongoing efforts to secure his access to legal and personal rights.
