Islamabad Local Government Election Schedule Announced by ECP

ECP withdraws delimitation schedule for Punjab’s local body elections
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has released the full schedule for the local government elections in the federal capital. The polling will take place on 15 February. Voting will start at 8:00 AM and continue till 4:00 PM without any break.
The ECP said that Returning Officers will display notices for nomination papers on 19 December. After that, candidates can submit their nomination papers from 22 December to 27 December. The commission has asked all parties and independent candidates to follow the timeline strictly.
According to the schedule, appeals against acceptance or rejection of nomination papers can be filed from 5 January to 8 January. Special tribunals will hear and decide these appeals between 9 January and 13 January. The final list of candidates will be issued afterward as per the law.
The Election Commission has started preparations to ensure smooth polling in Islamabad. Training for polling staff, printing of ballot papers, and arrangements for polling stations will begin soon. Security plans will also be finalized with the support of Islamabad Police.
These elections are important because Islamabad has been without a full local government setup for several months. The new representatives will handle civic issues like water supply, sanitation, roads, and street maintenance. Citizens are hoping for better service delivery once the new system is in place.
