Pakistan Condemns Bihar CM, Raises Alarm Over Chenab River Water Concerns

18 December, 2025 12:42

Islamabad, December 18, 2025 – Pakistan has strongly condemned the reported harassment of a female doctor by the Chief Minister of Bihar, India, and urged the Indian government to ensure the protection of minority rights and religious freedom.

Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andarabi described the act of forcibly removing the doctor’s hijab as “inhuman and condemnable”, noting that minorities in India continue to face systemic discrimination.

Water Security Concerns

Pakistan has also expressed deep concern over sudden fluctuations in the Chenab River since December 7. Abnormal changes in water levels have been observed, prompting Pakistan’s Indus Water Commission to send a formal letter to its Indian counterpart seeking clarification.

The Foreign Office stated that India’s release of water without prior notification raises serious concerns and constitutes a violation of the Indus Waters Treaty. Andarabi added that India has also breached international norms by failing to provide necessary water data and related information.

Pakistan emphasized that any unilateral actions regarding river flows are unacceptable. The government called on the international community to take note of India’s treaty violations, warning that such measures threaten regional peace.

The spokesperson reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to being a responsible state that respects international agreements and treats transboundary water issues with seriousness.
