Heavy rain and snowfall sweep across Saudi Arabia and Qatar
Parts of Saudi Arabia and Qatar experienced unexpected snowfall, heavy rain, and much colder temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday.
Reports said the unusual weather was caused by a series of low-pressure systems affecting the Middle East over the past week, bringing widespread rainfall and thunderstorms. BBC Weather forecasts warned that the storm could get stronger before moving toward the UAE and Qatar overnight.
Large areas of Qatar were covered in snow, with videos online showing white landscapes. In Saudi Arabia, snowfall and light rain were reported in Trojena, a mountainous area in Tabuk province known for hiking and skiing.
Other areas, including Bir Bin Hermas, Al-Ayinah, Ammar, Al-Ula, and Shaqra, saw light to moderate rain. Riyadh and surrounding regions experienced heavy rainfall, leading authorities to move all schools in the capital to online learning.
The Saudi Press Agency reported snow in parts of the Hail region and rain in Qassim and Tabuk. The National Center for Meteorology warned that cold air could push temperatures below freezing in northern and central areas, causing frost and icy roads.
Officials advised residents to stay cautious, follow safety guidelines, and monitor official weather updates during the cold spell.
