Slow internet likely across Pakistan on January 15

14 January, 2026 13:51

Internet users across Pakistan may face slow speeds or temporary internet issues on January 15 due to scheduled maintenance on a major submarine internet cable.

Internet service provider Nayatel said the maintenance work will start around 2:00 PM and may continue for about eight hours. During this time, internet performance across the country could be affected.

In a message sent to customers, Nayatel explained that the work is being carried out on an international submarine cable and cannot be avoided. The company did not share details about the exact location or nature of the problem but warned users to expect slower internet speeds.

Submarine cables play a vital role in connecting Pakistan to the global internet. Any issue with these cables can affect everyday online activities such as browsing, streaming, online meetings, and office work.

Earlier this month, Pakistan also faced major internet problems. On January 1, 2026, users across the country reported slow speeds and outages that lasted for more than two days due to a fault in an upstream service provider.

Pakistan depends on a small number of submarine cables for international connectivity. While maintenance is necessary to keep services running, it often causes inconvenience for users. During such work, internet traffic is shifted to other routes, but speeds may still remain slow.
