Israel Rejects US-Backed Gaza Peace Board Proposal
Israel has rejected the proposed formation of a Peace Board for Gaza, making it clear that the move is inconsistent with Israeli government policy.
According to foreign media, a statement issued by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said that no consultation or contact was made with Israel regarding the establishment of this board. The statement also expressed displeasure that the list was released, ignoring the Israeli position.
The Israeli government said that Foreign Minister Gideon Saar will soon raise the issue with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to convey Israel’s concerns.
It should be noted that the White House announced the names of the members of the Gaza Peace Board under US President Donald Trump’s peace plan. The plan aims to coordinate security, humanitarian assistance, and reconstruction efforts in Gaza.
The Gaza Peace Board is being presented as an important platform for advancing the reform process in the Palestinian Authority and the administration of Gaza; however, after Israel’s opposition to it, questions have begun to arise about the future of the project.
