Taliban-Fueled Afghan Extremists Pose Threat to Europe, Central Asia

18 January, 2026 14:00

The rise of Afghan extremist elements under the Taliban regime has become a significant security threat not only to Central Asia but also to Europe. This extremist ideology has crossed international borders, posing a global risk to innocent lives. According to reports from the BBC and Arab News, a formal hearing has commenced against an Afghan suspect involved in a recent Munich attack.

In that incident, a mother and daughter were killed and several others injured after a car plowed into a crowd. Prosecutors have charged the Afghan suspect with two counts of murder and 44 counts of attempted murder. In response, the German Chancellor has announced tough measures against Afghan refugees involved in criminal activities.

Violent incidents involving Afghan nationals have been reported elsewhere as well. A month ago, two people were killed in a knife attack in Aschaffenburg, and last year, two National Guard personnel were killed in a shooting carried out by an Afghan individual in Washington. Consequently, the arrest and deportation of undocumented Afghans are accelerating across Pakistan, Iran, the United States, and Europe. Experts warn that Afghanistan has become a hotbed of terrorism, posing serious threats to regional and global stability.
