Hollywood Star Sophie Turner Opens Up About Early Motherhood

Sophie Turner reveals how becoming a mother has changed the way she views her appearance.

Sophie Turner shared in a new interview that when she discovered she was pregnant with her first daughter at 24, she didn’t feel fully prepared for parenthood.

Turner, who is mom to Willa, 4, and Delphine, 2, with Joe Jonas, said being a mother helped her grow in this role. “If I hadn’t been a mother, I don’t know if I would have been able to bring the same energy that I did into it,” she said. “It’s such a struggle being a single mother. Joan doesn’t go about it in the best way … but it is amazing to see her really fighting for her daughter. It’s also really important for kids to see just how hard parents work for them.”

On Wednesday, British Vogue featured an interview with 28-year-old Sophie Turner, where she discussed her motherhood journey, including her feelings upon discovering she was pregnant with her now three-year-old daughter, Willa, during a retreat in Bali.

“It was my first day there, and I was meeting my roommate for the first time. Before we settled down to chat, I told her that I just needed to go and take a pregnancy test,” she said. “I took the test and was like, ‘I’m pregnant, so nice to meet you!’”

She also spoke about the shame and judgment mothers often face. “There’s so much shame that comes with motherhood,” Turner said. “You go to work, you’re shamed. If you don’t go to work, you’re shamed.”

Sophie, who has two children with her ex-husband Joe Jonas, revealed that she stepped away from acting to focus on her family.

“It just felt like the right break to focus on me because I’d been a character for so long,” said Sophie.

However, she noted, “Nesting and being at home was amazing, but the flip side of it — and COVID didn’t help — was that it was a big break from my career.”

In another part of the interview, Sophie shared her thoughts on her experiences as an actress.

“A really important part of being an actor is to live a life so you have experiences to draw on. I remember having to act being in love before I’d ever been in love,” she said.

Sophie continued, “I thought, ‘OK, I guess I’ll just do this.’ And then suddenly, when I’d been in love for the first time, then I knew the feeling.”

“That’s part of the job — to sit in the discomfort of feeling so that we can bring it to the table,” she concluded.
