Ireland Raises Concerns Over Gaza Peace Board
DUBLIN: Ireland has expressed serious concerns about the proposed Gaza Peace Board, officials said on Thursday.
Deputy Prime Minister Simon Harris told the media that several risky aspects have emerged in the current plan. “What we saw at the signing ceremony was very different from the original peace proposal,” he said.
Harris added that the plan approved by the United Nations initially aimed to create a clear board to oversee peace in Gaza. However, the new proposals reportedly reduce the focus on Gaza and include controversial figures such as Russian President Vladimir Putin, raising multiple questions.
Ireland currently sees no clear role for itself in the board. Harris warned that if the peace plan deviates from its original objectives, it could create new problems instead of solving existing issues in the region.
He emphasized that any international plan regarding sensitive areas like Gaza should prioritize transparency, UN oversight, and the rights of affected civilians.
Ireland’s position is that the current structure of the Gaza Peace Board appears politically influenced, with practical peace measures taking a back seat.
