Shocking Incident in Bahawalpur: Landlord Severely Injures Buffalo Over Crop Damage
Bahawalpur witnessed a horrifying case of animal cruelty when a landlord allegedly chopped off the legs of a buffalo with an axe in the jurisdiction of Nowshera Jadeed police station.
According to police, the incident occurred after the buffalo entered the landlord’s crop field, prompting the extreme act. Authorities confirmed that a case has been registered, and the accused is currently in custody. “Further investigation is underway, and legal action will be taken based on the findings,” police added.
Such cases of animal abuse are unfortunately not uncommon in Pakistan. Over the past few years, multiple incidents of extreme violence against livestock have surfaced nationwide, raising serious concerns about animal welfare and rural disputes.
For instance, in 2022, a man in Punjab reportedly killed a cow in anger over crop damage, while in 2021, a similar case in Sindh drew widespread condemnation after a buffalo was severely injured by farm workers.
Animal welfare organizations have consistently urged authorities to implement stricter laws and raise awareness about the humane treatment of livestock, emphasizing that such acts are punishable under Pakistan’s Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
